Author, Social Scientist, Stanford Doctoral Candidate, Rhodes Scholar
Keynote Speaker
Celebrated author, sought-after speaker and future university professor, Caylin Louis Moore inspires audiences with wisdom from his journey of overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles to striving to leave the world better than he found it.
Caylin was raised in Compton, Carson and South Central Los Angeles, California, where he grew up in poverty. Taking advantage of the very limited educational opportunities in his community, he excelled academically and athletically, eventually graduating with a B.S. in Economics from Texas Christian University in 2017. As a student-athlete in football at TCU, he became the founder and president of S.P.A.R.K., a community outreach organization encouraging youth to pursue education as a means of community uplift. Caylin’s sustained mentorship and engagement with disadvantaged communities has led his work with S.P.A.R.K. to be featured as part of his November 2016 ESPN cover story. Caylin went on to become a 2017 Rhodes Scholar, graduating from the University of Oxford, where he earned his MSc. in Latin American Studies.
His against-all-odds journey from the cruel urban poverty of an over-policed and gang- ridden Los Angeles community to becoming a Rhodes Scholar is detailed in his acclaimed book, A Dream Too Big: The Story of an Improbable Journey from Compton to Oxford. His work has been featured by Good Morning America, NBC, Home and Family among many other media outlets. His book was named a Good Morning America Anchor’s Favorite Books of 2019.
